The size of the nutrient holes indicate this specimen would most likely have come from a mature adult. This appealing section of frill was used to protect the animal from predators such as the Tyrannosaurus rex. The Triceratops, lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 to 66 million years ago. This herbivorous species is distinguished by its large body, strong legs, and three prominent facial horns - one on the nose and one above each eye.
