Partial Therapod jaw
This partial theropod jaw from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco dates to the Cretaceous period (~95 million years ago). While incomplete, it preserves distinct bone structure characteristic of predatory dinosaurs that once roamed this region, such as abelisaurids and other large theropods. Specimens like this provide valuable insight into the diversity of carnivorous dinosaurs that thrived alongside Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus in North Africa’s ancient river systems.
The Kem Kem Beds are world-renowned for their abundance of theropod remains. Among the most notable are Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, the sail-backed fish-eating giant; Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, a massive apex predator rivaling Tyrannosaurus in size; and various abelisaurids, medium-sized theropods with stocky builds and short, deep skulls. Together, these predators highlight the unusual and predator-rich ecosystem of Cretaceous Morocco, where multiple large carnivores coexisted in a dynamic environment.
