Description

This authentic Triceratops tooth is a partially rooted specimen from the Hell Creek Formation, one of the most famous fossil-bearing sites of the Late Cretaceous. Found in ancient river channel deposits, this tooth displays typical signs of natural water wear, with some enamel detail gently smoothed by sediment and flow over time. Despite this, the characteristic shape of the crown remains well-defined, showcasing the robust chewing surface used by Triceratops to break down tough prehistoric vegetation. Part of the root has been professionally glued to preserve the specimen’s integrity.

The Triceratops, a well-known dinosaur, lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 to 66 million years ago. This herbivorous species is distinguished by its large body, strong legs, and three prominent facial horns - one on the nose and two above the eyes. The most striking feature of Triceratops is its large skull, which includes a solid frill at the back. This frill, combined with the horns, was likely used for defense against predators, as well as for display and species recognition among fellow Triceratops. Fossil evidence indicates that these dinosaurs could grow up to 30 feet in length and weigh between 6 to 12 tons. Their teeth were arranged in groups that formed a constantly replaced battery, ideal for their diet of fibrous plants.
