Rare Eocene Sixgill Shark Tooth Virginia
This fossil tooth comes from Hexanchus cf. collinsonae, a prehistoric sixgill shark that roamed the deep seas of Eocene Virginia around 34–56 million years ago. Part of an ancient lineage that still survives today, these sharks were slow-moving scavengers and opportunistic predators, feeding on fish, marine reptiles, and carrion. With their powerful jaws and extra rows of teeth, they thrived in deep, dark waters where few others dared to hunt. A striking piece from one of the ocean’s oldest surviving shark families!
