RARE Eocene Fossil Cookie Cutter Tooth .21"
This authentic fossil tooth belonged to a Cookie Cutter Shark (Isistius), a small but fearsome predator from the Eocene epoch, about 34–56 million years ago. These sharks got their name from their bizarre feeding behavior: they latch onto larger animals like whales, dolphins, or even other sharks, then twist to gouge out perfectly round plugs of flesh—leaving behind “cookie cutter” wounds. Despite their size, they were open-ocean dwellers that hunted in deep waters, rising at night to feed.
