3.75" Ammolite
An exquisite piece of an ammolite with very vibrant hues of red and green.
Ammolite is one of nature’s true surprises. Found almost exclusively in Alberta, Canada, it forms from the fossilized shells of ancient ammonites that lived millions of years ago. The shell is made of aragonite, the same mineral that gives mother of pearl its shimmer, and when those microscopic layers are preserved just right, they produce ammolite’s famous flashes of color. What makes it especially fascinating is that ammolite displays color without any added minerals or dyes—its beauty comes purely from the way light bends through its natural structure. So rare and striking is this process that in early 80's, ammolite was officially recognized as a gemstone by the World Jewellery Confederation.
