Pyrite Sun in Original Slate

Sale price$80.00

Unearthed in their natural state, the pyrite suns rest upon original slate, unaltered save for gentle cleaning and precise micro blasting for optimal display. The matrix measures 8" x 8", while the pyrite sun itself boasts dimensions of 2 1/4" x 2 1/2". In rare cases where a sun may have become detached during preparation, it has been seamlessly reattached. Any such instances will be noted.

Pyrite Suns

Pyrite suns, also known as pyrite dollars, are fascinating and unique mineral formations of the shiny, metallic mineral pyrite (FeS₂), which is also commonly known as fool's gold due to its superficial resemblance to real gold. These formations are particularly associated with Sparta, Illinois, where they have been found in abundance and have a notable local significance.
