Partial Theropod Rib Possibly Allosaurus in Original Matrix
Jurassic Theropod Rib in Matrix (likely Allosaurus)
A well-presented specimen featuring a partial theropod rib embedded in Jurassic-aged matrix. Based on the location and associated finds, the rib most likely belonged to an Allosaurus, one of the most common theropods from this site. An additional, unidentified bone fragment is also preserved within the matrix.
This fossil comes from an Allosaurus, one of the most fearsome predators to ever roam the Earth. It lived over 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period, and this particular piece was found in the fossil-rich lands of Wyoming. With its sharp teeth and powerful build, Allosaurus was the top of the food chain back then. Holding a piece of it is like holding a bit of prehistory in your hand—a real connection to a time when dinosaurs ruled the land.
