Ichthyosaurus Jaw

The juvenile Ichthyosaurus jaw, found in England, is still preserved in its original matrix. This unique piece contains boring clam holes that have been filled and painted. The matrix's bottom edges have been smoothed with putty.

Ichthyosaurus was a dolphin-like marine reptile that lived during the Mesozoic era, around 250 to 90 million years ago. It had a streamlined body, elongated snout, and large eyes, adapted for hunting in the ocean. Fossils of Ichthyosaurus, often found in Europe, reveal it was an efficient swimmer, feeding on fish and squid. This well-preserved marine reptile provides significant insights into the diversity of life in ancient seas.
