Rare Pair of Pyrite Suns in Original Slate

Sale price$225.00

These are a pair of rare pyrite suns joined together on their original slate. It is not often that multiple pyrite suns are found on one slate. They have not been artificially placed on the slate and have only been cleaned and gently blasted to reveal their natural beauty. In some cases, they may have been reattached during the preparation process and this will be noted.

Both suns measure a combined 4 1/2" wide and 2 7/8" high on matrix measuring 10" x 6".

Pyrite Suns

Pyrite suns, also known as pyrite dollars, are fascinating and unique mineral formations of the shiny, metallic mineral pyrite (FeS₂), which is also commonly known as fool's gold due to its superficial resemblance to real gold. These formations are particularly associated with Sparta, Illinois, where they have been found in abundance and have a notable local significance.
