Fossil Manatee Vertebra

This fossil vertebra once belonged to a Trichechus manatus, the West Indian manatee, and was discovered in North Florida. Solid and dense, like most manatee bones, it gives us a direct link to a time when these gentle giants glided through Florida’s prehistoric waterways. A quiet piece of the past, beautifully preserved.
