Bakersfield bones in Matrix

This intriguing mix of fossilized bones comes straight from the famous Sharktooth Hill area near Bakersfield, California—a site known for its incredibly rich marine fossil beds. Still nestled in its original matrix, the piece includes a fish vertebra, another small vertebra, the end of a bone from Allodesmus (a prehistoric marine mammal), and a tooth from the ancient shark Carcharodon hastalis. Around 15 million years ago, this area was part of a shallow sea filled with incredible creatures—and this fossil captures a small, fascinating glimpse of that long-lost world.
