Amazing specimen. Search online for fossil fish and you see that most, if not all, are on their side -- or laterally compressed. A true rarity in fossil fish collecting. Taking care not to over hype this fossil at risk of sounding like some other sites, I just want to convey how uncommon it is. All of the skull structure, including the jaws, teeth and gill plates are perfectly preserved. The vertebrae, fin spines and ribs are intact. Only some of the soft body elements have been restored. The plate measures 11" x 7.5". The fish is 8.5 inches long.
