Fossils from the early Miocene of Florida are extremely rare. Few sites produce terrestrial fossils from this time period in Florida and most of them are excavated by the university in Gainesville. One could dive Flroida's rivers for years and never come across a single terrestrial fossil from this time period.
This jaw is in pristine condition especially considering it is nearly 20 million years old. You would be hard pressed to find a Pleistocene fossil that is as well preserved as this one. The teeth and bone are highly detailed and beautifully preserved. Rhino fossils are uncommon at this site so this is truly a unique offering.
